I'M not a great one for holding up celebrities as role models for our kids - but reckon Tony Parsons speaks some sense (even if some of it is patronising nonsense*) here.
I'm sick of reading that children from so-called 'broken homes' are hopeless cases - when they're not. I hope the mums who have scrimped and saved to give George Sampson and Andrew Johnston a chance to 'follow their dream' are as proud, as proud can be.
* Why should anyone be surprised that the children of a hairdresser or cleaner (The Cheeky Monkeys) should 'amount to' something? "Life has given them little"? I don't think so Tony - a mum's love and a work ethic are plenty to be going on with, I'd say.
